cuculcan

our weekend in cozumel was amazing. Syd and I had a wonderful time relaxing and spending time together. Sofia also had a great time back at home with my mom and dad. she didn't even cry when we got home (when we got back from the derby, she was ticked off at us), she just looked up and said, 'hey!' and then ran over and gave us a big hug. it was precious.

Friday and Saturday, we hung out by the pool all. day. long. we caught up on a few books we had wanted to read, talked, ate, and drank virgin pina coladas. i know, we're so boring. both nights we ate dinner at this great Asian restaurant- yes it was worth passing up fajitas and queso. we've both figured out we would much rather have tex-mex food than real mex. food. Both nights, we hung around the hotel, watched a bit of the 'broadway show' they put on Friday and Saturday we hung out in the lounge. the first night it was really hard to be away from Sosa. we talked to her on the phone and my parents reassured me she was doing well so we were able to enjoy the rest of our trip without worrying about her...too much.

Sunday, we took a day trip to Chichenitza. it has now been named one of the seven wonders of the world and since Syd had never been, we decided it was worth it. we woke up at 6:00, took a ferry to Playa del Carmen and then proceeded to a bus which drove 3 hours to the ruins. definitely not my idea of a good time but i'm glad we did it, for Syd's sake. once we got the Chichen, we took a tour and the guide explained the history of the ruins. we were constantly being interrupted during the tour by little mexican kids who wanted to take pictures with Syd. they thought he was famous. one even asked if he played for the lakers. Ha! another time, a woman came up to Syd and asked his name, he said, "Syd" which I guess sounds like 'si' so she got mad and asked again, "WHAT'S YOUR NAME!". S-Y-D. geez!

after we explored Chichenitza on our own, we left for a 'mayan feast' as the travel agent has described. if by mayan feast you mean american baseball game, he was spot on. for lunch, they served us hot dogs, nachos, spaghetti and fajitas. it was terrible. the tour guide, however, redeemed himself when he took us to our next stop. we went to a cenote (a 50 meter deep well) outside of vallolid and it was beautiful. in order to get to the water, you had to walk through a cave. it was awesome! Syd is afraid of heights so he wasn't too keen on the idea of jumping off something 20 feet high into freezing water so he stayed and photographed while i went on an adventure.

once we finished at the cenote, we left for one of the oldest cities in mexico, vallolid. we went to the cathedral, prayed, admired the church, and then bought some mamones. mamones are small berry-like fruits that i've eaten since i was a kid. when we would go to venezuela, we would eat them by the bag full and this was the first time i had seen them anywhere else. we bought a huge bag and ate them on the long trip back to cozumel.

monday morning, we woke up early, ate breakfast and then said goodbye to cozumel. we were glad to be heading back home to our little girl.

this week we're going to spend lots of time loving on our Sofia, making up for the weekend, and hanging out with family and friends.

speaking of friends, HAPPY BIRTHDAY STACY HALL!! I love you! We are so glad to have you and your family so close. hope today is fabulous.

Haha, I definitely have babies on the brain, especially when I see all of the fun you have with your beautiful little one! But, we are planning on waiting another year or so. That is unless God has other plans for us! I will keep you posted! Can't wait to come to Houston and meet sweet Sofia.
